Bonus Block - Good Morning World

Bit of a wonky sun, but that's how I feel some mornings.

Splendid Sampler Challenge - Block 94 - Skyscrapers

Block 94 - Skyscrapers

I live in the country with lots of tall trees around me. So this one will not be done. I might revisit at some stage and make them trees, but that is not this block.

Splendid Sampler Challenge - Block 91 - Gran's Button Jar

Block 91 - Gran's Button Jar

I am not doing this one at this time as I have hand stitched all the squares and a sewing machine ( a second one in the patterns for this challenge) just does not suit. There are enough others, that I don't think it will be missed.

Dear Jane A-3 Hunter's Moon

Dear Jane A-3 Hunter's Moon

Wow! I was having a really bad time with this one.Trying to get a circle was very hard... UNTIL ...  a friend showed me her way of doing needle turning. I will try to explain, in brief. You cut the template out of Mylar, then cut your fabric with the 1/4 inch bigger. Put a gather stitch around and gather to the template. Starch and iron real well and take out the template. Applique as per normal. Looks fantastic.

Piece sizes:
     Background:      4 -- 1 1/4 x 2 1/2 inch piece

     Colour:               5 inch square

And here is the finished square

2017 Dear Jane Project

So, 2017 I am going to start my Dear Jane quilt. I am going to give my measurements of pieces and some of the processes I have used in doing each of the blocks.

Each finished block will be 5 inches, including seam allowance. I will be using standard piecing when I can, needle turning when necessary and paper piecing if I have to to get the effect/.

I have spend the beginning of January pulling together the fabric I will be using. I an using a tone on tone white for the background. I have purchased 8 metres in hopes that it will be enough (with all the mistakes I will make).

There are 56 plain fabric triangles on the edges, so I was hoping to fine 56 fabrics for the blocks, I don't quite have that, but I can double up a bit on them as needed. My theme colour is navy blue with highlights of deep blue and lighter blues.

Here is a picture of them before I did the fabric frolic and got more of the dark navy patterns.

A bit about the Dear Jane Quilt. This is from a quilt done in 1863 by Jane A. Stickle. There is lots of information about this quilt and Jane on the internet. There are over 229 pieces in this quilt and I hope to get all of them, in time.

So, here I go.

Dear Jane - Starting of a very large project

Dear Jane - Starting of a very large project

I found this lovely quilt on Pinterest. It intrigues me and I looked into it and found out history of Jane Stickle quilt from 1863.

I mentioned it to our Warby Quilters and several of them where interested also, We have formed a small group who are going to meet once a month and encourage each other to move through this project.

I am going to use this project to use some of the lovely fabrics that my mother donated to me when I visited her last May. I will be adding a few that I have found along the way and a nice white on white pattern, which I will get soon. Here is my starting stash for this quilt. I think It need another navy or two to even it out also.

I will try to blog my progress here and those of my friends if they let me. I will endeavor to record how I do each one and how they are all fitting together.  The plan is to get it done in the next two years. And so the project begins
